Smart Battery Case Replacement Program for iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR
If you have recently bought an iPhone and your smart battery case is struggling to charge your iPhone, or you can’t really charge the case itself at all, then you’ve got a defective product on your hands. Apple is aware of these issues and is ready with replacements, under its Apple’s replacement program. Apple replacement program is only good for the Smart Battery Case on the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR. Also affected cases were manufactured at some point between January and October of 2019. Apple isn’t, however, replacing every case that was sold between this time period. You’ll have to bring yours to one of Apple’s authorised service providers or an Apple retail store for inspection. If Apple agrees that your case is defective, it will be replaced for free.
While you should probably stop using any Smart Battery Case that isn’t charging itself or your iPhon), Apple notes that the case itself won’t damage your much-more-expensive iPhone. If you get a replacement case, you’re keeping your original case’s warranty. You don’t get any kind of extension or reset with an Apple replacement.
To get started with your replacement, simply make an appointment at an Apple retail store or visit another authorised service provider.
Smart Battery Case Replacement Program for iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR
Apple has determined that some Smart Battery Cases made for iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR may experience charging issues. An affected Smart Battery Case may exhibit one or more of the following behaviors:
- Battery case will not charge or charges intermittently when plugged into power
- Battery case does not charge the iPhone or charges it intermittently
Affected units that were manufactured between January 2019 and October 2019. This is not a safety issue and Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will replace eligible battery cases, free of charge.
No other iPhone Smart Battery Cases are part of this program.
How does replacement process work?
Choose one of the service options below to have your Smart Battery Case replaced. Your Smart Battery Case will be examined prior to any service to verify that it is eligible for this program.

Make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store.
Note that Apple may restrict or limit repair to the original country or region of purchase.
This worldwide Apple program doesn’t extend the standard warranty coverage of the Smart Battery Case. Your consumer law rights are unaffected by this program. The program covers affected Smart Battery Case for 2 years after the first retail sale of the unit. The affected battery cases will be disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.
