The six unique attributes of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus that will coax you to buy it

As most of Aussies might be wanting to get iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus, being the latest Apple smartphone along with iPhone X , it sometimes becomes difficult to choose which one of the newest phone to get. iPhone X is the expensive phone with 64 GB costing AU $1579 and 256 GB costing AU$1829 (at the time of writing) and iPhone 8  and 8 plus being cheaper where the 64 GB handset costs AU$1079 and for the plus one AU$1229.

If you are considering for the iPhone 8 model then when you look at both of the handsets  that is iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus look quite similar with not much of a difference except for the screen size.  The former has a 4.7 inch screen and the later has 5.5 inch display with a bit bigger battery. Though iPhone X and iPhone 8 have lots of similar features but when it comes to pricing iPhone 8 and 8 plus has six similar attributes that will surely coax you to buy it at a cheaper price than iPhone X.

1. Wireless charging

iPhone 8 and 8 plus offers new wireless charging capability. But to use this feature you need to get hands on few extra accessories. To use fast charging, you need to buy and use a Lightning to USB-C cable, which is available in a 1-meter and 2-meter version. You also need to buy a USB-C power adapter.  Apple lays out the requirements in a support document on its website.

• Adapter should be Apple 29W, 61W, or 87W USB-C Power Adapter
• A comparable third-party USB-C power adapter that supports USB Power Delivery (USB-PD)
• With the right USB-C power adapter and USB-C to Lightning cable, you can expect to get a 50 percent charge in 30 minutes.

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are both compatible with standard Qi standard, which is great because there are a number of Qi wireless chargers on the market.

At the moment however, buying a 15-watt charging pad won’t necessarily charge your phone faster as the iPhones are only capable of taking in 5 watts right now. Apple will be pushing a software update later that will allow the iPhones to take in 7.5 watts. Buying a 15W charger won’t damage your phone  and it might even be worth buying them for use with future devices. The pads are broadly available from all tech retailers and can be purchased for under $20. Apple is launching its own wireless pad in 2018 that’ll add faster charging speeds.

2. Stereo speakers  on all four corners

Like the iPad pro Apple has now introduced the stereo speakers, which fire sound from the top and bottom or left and right in portrait mode are louder and are easily among the best on a smartphone . It’s really pleasing to sit on the couch and watch a TV show on the iPhone without hearing sound coming out of just one side of the phone. Apple says that speakers are around 25 percent louder than in earlier last year phone. Whether you are listening to your Podcasts and music the volume is all clear and crispy. Also the speaker in the earpiece is better able to keep up with the main speaker on the phones’ bottom edges.

3. Augmented Reality Gaming

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus pack Apple’s most advanced processor, called the A11 Bionic, which helps power everything from an incredibly fluid gaming experience to advanced augmented reality applications.

Playing your 3D poker game will give you augmented reality experiences, which really pound on the processor. Augmented reality blurs the line between the real world and the virtual world. A version of Apple’s AR technology was introduced earlier this year at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference. Essentially, the technology uses the phone’s camera to add pretend objects to real situations.

4. Cameras portrait mode

There are a lot of really good phones with fantastic cameras right now, including Samsung’s Galaxy S8/Note 8 family, the Google Pixel and the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. Apple’s iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus continue to push the boundaries.

Both phones are excellent for photos, and feature a now-common option called optical image stabilization that helps keep photos clear even if you shake or you’re riding in a bumpy car. They’re also super quick to snap a picture. Last year, Apple introduced a new feature called “Portrait Mode” on the iPhone 7 Plus. It uses both camera sensors to add a depth-of-field effect, which basically blurs the background and turns an otherwise simple photo into one that looks like it was snapped by a professional photographer.

Apple this year came with a new option that allows you to change the lighting effects on the subject. You can turn the whole background black, create a black and white portrait, change lighting on the face and more. It’s really fun but it’s also still in beta mode. If you take your time and really pay attention to the environment and make sure you subject is separate enough from any background objects you can get some neat photos when you have practiced on it for few times.

5. iOS 11

Both new iPhones ship with iOS 11, which is also available for older devices, from the iPhone 5s and newer like the iPhone X. It adds a lot of features. You’ll still see the same home screen grid of icons and 3D Touch is still supported, so you can press on the screen to access fresh menu options. Apple added several new features, however, including redesigned Control Center. This lets you swipe up from the screen to access all sorts of options. You can turn on a feature to record your screen, control your Apple TV, toggle Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, see your music controls, access any smart lights or devices you might have installed in your house and more.

Apple’s also putting an emphasis on machine learning in iOS 11 which is all now part of Siri’s artificial intelligence. Once just a voice assistant, Siri is now the brains behind the software, too. Siri might recommend news stories it thinks you’re interested in with the brand new News application, or music based on your tastes. Siri, the voice, also sounds more natural and has new abilities to translate languages.

Another part of iOS 11 and the iPhone 8 story is augmented reality as said above. This can best be thought of as using the digital world to overlay objects on top of the real world, where the iPhone acts as your screen or portal into viewing that experience.

6. Ikea’s AR app on the iPhone 8 Plus

Other apps include a new game called The Machines, which basically lays a super-detailed and live game world on any flat surface of your home — complete with flying space ships and marching marines. Another, Night Sky, lets you use augmented reality to see where planets, stars and constellations are. Apple says AR is going to be huge and that this is just the beginning of something massive, like when it first introduced the app store.
